Your eleven-day, nature-focused journey begins the moment you land at Agadir Al Massira Airport, where your private driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall with a sign bearing your name — no shared shuttles, no confusion, just a warm welcome and a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle ready to take you into the city. Agadir makes a relaxed, easygoing base for the first part of this trip, which is deliberately built around some of southern Morocco's finest natural landscapes rather than its historic imperial cities — the wetlands and rare birdlife of the Souss-Massa National Park, the dramatic red rock arches of Legzira Beach, and, later in the journey, the golden dunes of the Sahara itself. Rebuilt in a planned, orderly style after a devastating earthquake levelled the original town in 1960, Agadir today offers wide boulevards, a long sandy beach, and a genuinely different, sunnier atmosphere than Morocco's older medinas. After checking in to your hotel, the rest of the day is free to settle in, take a first walk along the beachfront promenade, and rest after your flight before tomorrow's first excursion into the national park.

Today we head south to the Souss-Massa National Park, a roughly 33,000-hectare protected area where the Souss and Massa rivers meet the Atlantic Ocean, encompassing estuarine wetlands, low coastal cliffs, and semi-arid scrubland that together support an extraordinary diversity of birdlife rarely appreciated by visitors focused only on Morocco's cities. The park is internationally renowned among birdwatchers and conservationists as one of the last strongholds of the critically endangered northern bald ibis, a strange, striking bird with a bare red face, a shaggy black crest of feathers, and an iridescent bronze-green plumage, of which the park protects a genuinely significant proportion of the entire remaining world population — a species that has vanished from almost everywhere else it once bred across North Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. With a specialist local park guide, we take a gentle combination of walking and vehicle-based exploration along the estuary and surrounding dune systems, looking out for flamingos wading in the shallows, ospreys hunting overhead, and a wide variety of migratory species depending on the season, alongside Dorcas gazelles and other native wildlife reintroduced to a protected fenced enclosure within the park's boundaries as part of an ongoing conservation programme. Lunch is at a small, family-run local restaurant in the fishing village of Sidi Rbat, near the park entrance, where fresh grilled fish is a popular choice, before we return to Agadir in the late afternoon with time to relax before dinner.

This morning we drive south along the coast to Legzira Beach, famous throughout Morocco and increasingly internationally for its dramatic natural red sandstone arches rising directly out of the sand, sculpted over countless millennia by the combined action of wind and relentless Atlantic waves — genuinely one of the most photographed natural landmarks on Morocco's southern coast. Visitors should note that one of the two original arches collapsed in 2016, a stark reminder of the ongoing coastal erosion that continues to reshape this stretch of shoreline, but the remaining arch is still a remarkable sight, and the wide, largely undeveloped beach beneath it makes for a genuinely peaceful walk, far removed from the crowds of Agadir. We take a relaxed hour or so here, with plenty of time for photographs and simply enjoying the dramatic scenery and the sound of the waves. Continuing south, we visit Sidi Ifni, a small, atmospheric coastal town with a distinctive Spanish colonial Art Deco architecture almost unique in Morocco, a legacy of the period when this entire region was administered as a Spanish protectorate, only formally returned to Morocco in 1969 — considerably calmer, quieter, and more genuinely off-the-beaten-path than most of Morocco's better-known coastal towns. Lunch is at a simple seafront restaurant before we begin the return drive to Agadir, arriving in the evening.

This morning we depart Agadir after breakfast, leaving the coast behind as we head inland through the fertile Souss Valley, home to the great majority of Morocco's argan oil production, a tree found almost exclusively in this southwestern corner of the country. We stop in Taroudant, a walled town often nicknamed 'Little Marrakech' for its similar red pisé ramparts, taking an hour or so to walk along a section of the largely intact 16th-century walls and through the town's two atmospheric souks, known particularly for silver jewellery and leatherwork, at a noticeably calmer pace than Morocco's more famous markets. After lunch, the road climbs steadily into the Anti-Atlas Mountains, a drier, more rugged range than the High Atlas further north, before descending toward Ouarzazate, nicknamed the 'Door of the Desert' and, more recently, the 'Hollywood of Africa' thanks to the Atlas Film Studios located here, where major productions including Gladiator and Game of Thrones have taken advantage of the region's dramatic scenery and reliable sunshine. We check in for the night ahead of tomorrow's continuation toward the true Sahara.

This morning we visit Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified ksar above the Ounila River and UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, one of the best-preserved examples of pre-Saharan earthen architecture anywhere in the world, dating to the 17th century and built along the historic caravan route that once linked the Sahara to Marrakech. We take a guided walk through its narrow lanes up to the old communal granary at the top, where sweeping views open up over the valley below — a genuinely photogenic spot that has featured in numerous films, including Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator. Continuing east through increasingly dramatic pre-Saharan scenery, past the Dades Valley's dramatic rock formations and the region around Todra Gorge, we press on toward Merzouga, arriving on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dune sea in the late afternoon, where camel handlers meet us for an unforgettable sunset trek across the dunes to our exclusive desert camp. Enjoy a traditional dinner cooked over an open fire, and later, gather around the campfire as Berber musicians play traditional drums under one of the most spectacular starscapes anywhere on Earth.

For early risers, this morning offers the chance to climb a nearby dune before dawn and watch the sunrise transform the desert from soft pink to deep gold, a genuinely spectacular start to the day. After a relaxed Berber breakfast at camp — flatbread, honey, olive oil, and sweet mint tea — today is deliberately left free to properly experience the dune ecosystem at a gentle, unhurried pace, in keeping with the nature-focused spirit of this whole itinerary. A short guided walk can be arranged with your camp hosts to look at the specially adapted desert flora and fauna that survive in this extreme environment, from resilient, deep-rooted desert grasses and shrubs to the delicate tracks of nocturnal fennec foxes, desert beetles, and the occasional desert monitor lizard, all evidence of a surprisingly rich ecosystem that most fleeting visitors never notice. Optional 4x4 excursions further into the dune sea, or a relaxed visit to a nearby Berber family for tea and conversation, are also available for those wanting a change of pace. As the second evening approaches, we again watch the sunset paint the dunes in shifting shades of gold and rose before another traditional dinner and a further night of music and stars.

After a final Berber breakfast at camp, we say goodbye to our camel guides and drive west toward Todra Gorge, one of Morocco's most dramatic natural landmarks and a genuine highlight for anyone drawn to striking geology, where sheer pink and orange limestone cliffs rise up to 300 metres on either side of a narrow canyon in places barely 10 metres wide, carved over millennia by a small river that still flows along the canyon floor. We stop for an hour or so for a walk beneath the towering walls, watching rock climbers scaling routes on the sheer faces above, a popular destination for climbers from around the world, and taking photographs in the shifting light between the canyon walls. In the afternoon, we continue along the aptly named Road of a Thousand Kasbahs toward the Dades Valley, also known as the Valley of Roses for the Persian rose bushes cultivated here, checking in to a kasbah-style hotel with terrace views over the valley's dramatic, unusually eroded rock formations, sometimes called the 'Monkey Fingers', for a relaxed dinner as the sun sets behind them.

This morning, after breakfast overlooking the Dades Valley, we retrace part of our earlier route back through Ouarzazate, with time for a final, more relaxed look at the Taourirt Kasbah or the Atlas Film Studios if you'd like a second visit or missed anything on the way out to the desert. Continuing west, the road climbs back over the Anti-Atlas Mountains toward Taroudant, arriving in the late afternoon for a second, considerably more relaxed visit to the town's souks, now with a better sense of prices and quality after your first stop earlier in the trip, an excellent opportunity for any silver jewellery, leather goods, or spices you'd like to bring home. We overnight in Taroudant, a calmer, quieter base than Ouarzazate, ahead of tomorrow's final short drive back to the coast.

After breakfast, we complete the short remaining drive back to the coast through the fertile Souss Valley, arriving in Agadir by around midday with the rest of the day free to properly relax on the beach after the mountains and desert. Many guests find this transition back to the Atlantic a genuinely welcome contrast after the intensity of the preceding days — the flat, wide beach, the cooling sea breeze, and the simple pleasure of swimming after days spent in drier, more rugged terrain. The afternoon is entirely unstructured, whether that means swimming, reading on the sand, or simply people-watching along the promenade, and the evening is free for a relaxed seafood dinner by the beachfront, reflecting on the striking contrasts covered so far — wetlands, red rock arches, imperial-adjacent kasbahs, and golden Saharan dunes, all within a single week.

Your final full day is left entirely free to enjoy Agadir at your own pace, a deliberately unstructured close to a trip that has otherwise covered considerable ground. Many guests use this day for a final relaxing beach day, or to explore the Marina, a more upmarket area of the city with yachts, cafés, and boutique shops considerably different in character from the older parts of town. For those wanting a final excursion, we can arrange an optional trip to Paradise Valley, a scenic gorge with natural swimming pools in the Atlas foothills around forty-five minutes from the city, a popular escape for locals during the warmer months, or a visit to a local argan oil cooperative to see the traditional hand-extraction process, in which women's cooperatives crack the hard argan nuts by hand between two stones before grinding the kernels into oil, a labour-intensive process largely unchanged for generations. This evening makes an excellent opportunity for a final relaxed dinner, reflecting on a journey that has taken in some of southern Morocco's finest and most varied natural landscapes.
